woman giving flowers

woman giving flowers

acrylic on cradled wood panel

24″h x 24″w x 1.5″d

This painting is a sort of juxtaposition of two previous works.  The female motif is derived from a sketch that I did on newspaper about 25 years ago, and the idea for the background is loosely based on a recent painting entitled spring patchwork.  The plant life is camouflaged in order to strike a balance in color and form between the figure and the floral patterns.  However, in some cases the blooms comprise her body because she is meant to be both a part of, and the reason for, the flowers.  Her face is unseen as she is an Everywoman and her act of giving symbolizes generosity.
