whiskey weed

whiskey weed

acrylic on canvas

16″h x 20″w x .625″d

This painting was selected to be a part of Tamarack’s 2022 “Women’s Work” juried exhibition.  It was also invited to Monongalia Art Center’s exhibition entitled “A Summer’s Dream” and was on display in Morgantown, WV from August 11th until September 1, 2023.

Painted during high summer while looking out the window towards the main creek, and before I knew it, I realized I was depicting whiskey weed. This is the regional term given to perhaps the most tenacious of all plants in my area. It’s a type of bamboo that spreads very quickly along streams and creeks, and it’s starting to obstruct the view of many waterways.  The real name of it is “Japanese Knotweed.”  At least it has culinary and medicinal uses…

Please note that this painting was photographed with a matte varnish to avoid glare. It was then given a coat of gloss varnish in order to re-invigorate the acrylic color.

Open edition prints of this painting starting at $40.00 are available at: WWW.SAATCHIART.COM.
