This is the companion piece to the forest for the trees. It was painted later in the Spring when the leaves had matured which is why the palette is darker. Emphasis is placed on an impression of the forest as a whole instead of on individual tree parts and limbs, hence the title’s change from the old familiar aphorism.
This painting was selected to be a part of the 13th Annual Best of West Virginia Juried Exhibition and was on display at the David L. Dickirson Fine Arts Gallery at Tamarack in Beckley, WV from June 19, 2021 until August 1, 2021. It was invited to Monongalia Art Center’s exhibit entitled “A Summer’s Dream” and was on display in Morgantown, WV from August 11th through September 1, 2023.
