This painting was part of a juried exhibition entitled “Inspired:  A West Virginia Series of Juried Exhibitions (Landscapes)” and was on display at the Culture Center at the State Capitol Complex in Charleston, WV in 2010.

I took a photo of these cows in the neighboring farmer’s field one day and then later painted them.  Their flanks were actually touching and they moved together as if in a parade line, never breaking rank as long as I observed them.  I was later told that their behavior was most likely due to the fact that they were new to that field.  They were seeking comfort and reassurance from each other.
