snowdrops and milk of magnesia

snowdrops and milk of magnesia

acrylic and charcoal on canvas

24″h x 18″w x .5″d

This painting was selected to be a part of Tamarack’s “Still the One” juried exhibition and was on display at the David L. Dickirson Fine Arts Gallery in Beckley, WV from January 27th until March 2nd, 2024.

Every spring I look forward to picking my snowdrops and putting them into my vintage Phillips milk of magnesia bottles, the kind with the raised embossed lettering. The primary blue of the bottles is perfect with the white petals and primary green of the leaves of the snowdrops. This painting is a collage of the petals and stems of the snowdrops along with the blue of the bottle. Some of you will recognize the old Phillips symbol, too. I couldn’t stick with white for the petals, though. Had to imbue them with color and a certain sensuality.
